STATE SENATE CANDIDATE JEREMY WALKER PROMOTES SMALL BUSINESSES AFTER LATEST UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS RELEASED
RED BUD, IL – Illinois State Senate candidate Jeremy Walker was disappointed with the latest local unemployment statistics released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) for Southern Illinois counties earlier today.
According to the IDES, 24,597 people were without a job last month in the eight counties that make up the 58th Senate District. Walker remained disappointed by the lack of job opportunities in Southern Illinois and vowed to provide small businesses with more incentives to hire new employees if elected.
“Small businesses are the drivers of our economy,” Walker, a first-time candidate, said. “More needs to be done to put people back to work in Southern Illinois. Now more than ever the hard-working people here deserve someone who will work to generate new ideas instead of waiting for others to do the work.”
The local unemployment rate in Perry and St. Clair counties remained above 11 percent and Union county’s rate of 12.4 percent is the 10th worst in the Illinois. Jeremy Walker, a small business owner, explained the importance of cutting spending to make payroll, not employees. Walker pledged to lower taxes for small businesses and vowed to fight to bring incentives for businesses to come to Southern Illinois.
“As small business owners, my wife and I face the challenges of making payroll every day,” Walker said. “I’ll be the first to admit, there aren't easy answers. But what I do know is that small businesses are filled with innovative thinkers perfectly suited to get our economy back on track. Career politicians simply don't have the urgency to get the job done."
