CARBONDALE, IL (wsiu) - Democratic State Senate Candidate Jeremy Walker visited SIUC Wednesday to discuss funding for higher education.

Walker called on the General Assembly to override Governor Quinn's amendatory veto of this year's budget that cut an additional $100 million from the state's public universities and community colleges.

Walker also proposed mandating a formula that distributes one-third of new education funds to higher education and two-thirds to K-12.

State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville) joined Walker at SIUC. Sullivan says the traditional one-third/two thirds plan worked well when Illinois had the resources to do it. Sullivan says he thinks Walker's proposal will help protect funding for higher education and for K-12.
